About Me

I’m Glenda, a homeschooling stay-at-home mama to a teen son, with another son who’s currently serving in the military. After having a go at a variety of artsy-craftsy hobbies, I settled into needlework — more particularly, surface hand embroidery.

My first foray into needlework was back in the late ’80s — cross-stitch, more particularly. It was pre-Internet, so my cross-stitch was comprised of designs and kits found at the local craft store. I quit doing needlework altogether in the mid-’90s, then started back up again in 2007, when I discovered Craftster. Boy, was Craftster just the breath of fresh air I was craving when it came to needlework!! I loved seeing projects that were at the opposite end of the spectrum from the more traditional designs and kits found in the local craft store, and I was intrigued by how one surface hand embroidery design could take on such a wide variety of looks depending on the stitches and flosses used. I purchased a Sublime Stitching beginner’s-embroidery kit in 2007 and never looked back!

I was a prolific stitcher in 2008, 2009, and (slightly less so) 2010. I stitched substantially less during 2011, mostly due to health issues.

My health is finally back on a consistent upswing and I’m thrilled to have the kind of energy I used to have, but I’m finding my interest in doing needlework has waned considerably. I don’t have the patience for sitting and doing needlework! I’d rather be puttering around the house, tackling projects big and small that I’d not had the energy for during the prior couple years. Maybe the itch to stitch will re-emerge when cold weather sets back in and we’re near the holidays again . . . maybe ;-).

Other places you can find me online include Flickr and Library Thing. (ETA 5/2012: I haven’t updated Library Thing in a while. My attention span for novels is mostly non-existent right now! Maybe that’s another thing that will change when cold weather and short days roll back in again.)

Should you or a loved one be corn-allergic / corn-intolerant, a couple of my go-to places for support and information include (but definitely aren’t limited to) the Avoiding Corn forum (my favorite place for support and feedback from others who are corn-allergic / -intolerant), the corn derivatives list at Corn Allergens, and the News for Corn Avoiders blog. Additionally, because I know firsthand how debilitating and varied symptoms of a corn-allergy / -intolerance can be, and because corn derivatives are found in and on so many everyday foods and products (including, ironically, those labeled as “corn-free” or “organic”), I created a blog that focuses on how specific foods and products can be “corny” (vital information for those with a corn allergy or intolerance) — that blog is “Hidden Corn” — it’s still very much a work in progress, but is also a project very near-and-dear to my heart and one I’m glad to share.
