Frustration

The “April Showers” embroidery I showed in my last post is a no-go. As I began stitching around the appliqued pieces (which I’d adhered to the background fabric using fusible web), they began to detach from the background fabric. As a last-ditch effort to salvage the project, I tried a blanket stitch on the raincoat pieces to help hold them to the fabric, but it detracted too much from the pattern of the fabric — busy print + blanket stitch = *not* visually appealing.

I’m so frustrated with my needlework endeavors :(. I can’t seem to bring my projects to completion. I start something, thinking “Okay, I definitely will finish THIS one,” but I’m not getting any of them finished, for one reason or another.

So, I’m stepping away from needlework and other crafting for the time being. I guess I shouldn’t be totally surprised by this decision — last month I made the decision to leave my local Embroiderers Guild group, and I’ve not been participating in the StitchMAP needlework group either (other than my involvement in the Bastrop donations project).

It’s not that I’m not interested in needlework anymore — I still enjoy reading needlework blogs and magazines very much. But the drive to put needle to fabric just isn’t there for me like it used to be. I kept pushing for it to be there, but tonight I accepted that it’s just not there . . . certainly not in a way I need it to be in order to get past the little speed bumps that pop up on projects (like the April Showers embroidery).

Maybe that passion will return. I hope it does!! Preferably sooner than later ;-).

    G. don’t feel bad for the stitchy mojo leaving you for the moment! It happens to all of us at times.
Not long ago mine left me for few months (about 4 months) the longest so far. However, it ended up returning with a vengeance!!! So be prepared!!! ;-)
In the meantime enjoy other things you find satisfaction in doing, venture into something new or just take a break from all, we need that sometimes.

Agreed, early last summer I lost my stitchy mojo for several months and only late last year did my stitchy mojo returned. Granted, my circumstances may have been different than yours, but still, even before that, my stitchy mojo has come and gone. I find I can get my “creative” fix from baking and trying new recipes as well. Do other creative projects or not, and someday I’m sure you will feel that familiar itch to stitch again ;) And if for some reason you don’t, it won’t be the end of the world, but that time I’m sure you’ll have a new hobby/passion to occupy yourself with.

So sorry, you’ve lost your desire to stitch/craft. I’m sure at some point, the urge will come back, when just the right project comes along. If not, you’ve made some lovely things to look at, and who knows, maybe something totally new might come along to occupy your idle hands, that could be exciting!

It’s wise to step away if it’s not your thing right now. Never force yourself to “enjoy” a hobby!

    Yes, y’all are right :-).

It was actually a weight off my shoulders when I told myself, “It’s okay to NOT have this passion any longer. Keep moving forward!!”.

Something else will appear . . . and maybe the needlework will REappear ;-).
